Imagine a garden. What do you see in your mind’s eye? Ground-level collections of vegetables or ornamental plants? A back aching from the hours spent on your knees digging and trenching? The following are three unique planters that can redefine what a garden can be.
The first of these planters addresses a problem many yards have; too much rock or concrete and not enough life. Your solution is a boulder planter from B. Rocke. It’s a boulder… with plants in it! A large black granite boulder is hollowed out at the top to create space for planting annuals or perennials, and a drainage hole is drilled through from the side. Once this is done, the planter is ready to be filled with the plants of your choice. These boulders are usually two to three feet high, making for easier plant maintenance These planters rock!
Another unique planter we’ve built was for a daycare. We used cinder blocks to create an interactive, visually interesting, and versatile planter. The blocks are a standard masonry product, but in the hands of our skilled masons and a bit of mortar, they were transformed into a tiered planter in which the children could grow plants (such as strawberries or small annuals). This piece has an element of fun to it, but something similar could be utilized in a brutalist or modern yard design to create a green wall.
Speaking of versatility, the final planter in this showcase is one that’s gaining traction in our landscape designs. Imagine a low, rectangular, wooden planter for growing vegetables. Now imagine it on wheels. That’s right, wheels. Not a lot of sunlight in this part of your yard? Put on a sunny disposition and wheel your plants somewhere else! Tight on space for your flash mob rehearsal? Don’t skip a beat and move your planters into a corner! With these planters, a small space can still be a multi-use space.
